History

For those interested in history, Warrington is a great place to visit. Although already settled when the Romans came, by virtue of its position as a river crossing, the Civil War is the period for which it is most famous. Both armies stayed in the town; ask your driver of your Warrington limo hire vehicle to show you the Cottage Restaurant – reputedly the building on the site of where Cromwell lodged – and the Marquis of Granby pub, the nearest surviving building to the headquarters of the Earl of Derby. Damage on the parish church wall is said to have been caused by cannon at the time. Sadly for Royalist supporters, the town was where the King’s army had their last success, routing the Parliamentarians at the battle of Warrington Bridge.
